The inspiration for this lamp came from the 1930’s when the first angle poise lamps became available for the home. George Carwardine invented the revolutionary design after working as a car designer for a number of years. The flexibility and movement of the lamp allow for varied positions and locations. We feel this piece really merges industrial and rustic design.
The copper hood of the lamp was hunted down in an antique store in London. It is a milk strainer, which we transformed with a little bit of welding and a great looking bulb. We decided it would pair well with a stand that showcases the beauty of black walnut and its prominent grain. We let the wood speak for itself with nothing but a clear oil finish. The base has cast iron and concrete elements to ground the lamp both visually and physically.
